On this "Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria," 27 January 2009, the University of Pretoria (UP) honoured the South African Police Service for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the safety of staff and students.
UP’s Security Services collaborated closely with the Department of Justice, the Department of Correctional Services, and the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to address safety and crime prevention across its extensive properties. Given the scale of UP’s campuses and facilities, its Department of Security Services plays an active role in crime prevention. Director of Security Services at UP, Mr. Colin Fouché, stated: “The existing safety and security measures are constantly monitored and reviewed, and new, innovative measures are implemented to improve the safety and security situation on all campuses, residences, and surrounding areas.”
In recognition of these efforts, UP’s Department of Security Services was awarded a certificate for their professionalism and success in safeguarding the Hatfield precinct.
The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) is dedicated to preserving the institution’s history. Its collections include an extensive archive of newspaper clippings, annual reports, publications, and photographs, such as the ones featured here.
