Remembering UP's graduation ceremonies: 17 April 2009

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" UP awarded a honorary doctorate in Science to well-known researcher, Prof Kenneth Eriksson.

Professor Eriksson’s research has been concerned with understanding the evolution of the Precambrian sedimentary record and overall Earth evolution in the Precambrian era. He has been involved in understanding the geology of coal bearing sedimentary rocks in the Appalachian region of the USA. When the degree was conferred Prof Eriksson was a professor and Head of the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in the USA. Professor Eriksson has conducted research in the USA, Australia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

During the autumn 2024 graduation UP will confer more than 12 500 degrees. Many of the past graduation programmes, clipppings, photographs and recollections  relating to the ceremonies are housed in the University of Pretoria Archives (UPA).
