On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" Tukkie students acted in a national film on South African Universities.
The students were filmed debating the topic “Must academic freedom be applied or not?”. Twelve students participated in the filming. Students commented that while the film clip was only two minutes long it took nearly four hours to film and was very hard work. They explained that even though each actor had to only speak for fifteen seconds, the execution had to be perfect. If a student got stuck or did not speak with the right intonation that section had to be repeated. Some parts had to be filmed six times over.
The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive clipping collection including a complete print collection of the Perdeby(PDBY). Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or access our collection.
