This change of clothes policy was announced by the Student Society chairman, Hoffie Hofmeyer at a press conference. Strict rules were put in place to regulate the wearing of pants. Only single length pants were permitted, no hot pants or stretch pants and absolutely no beach wear. The pants had to be accompanied by a match tailored suit or tunic to at least hip length. Pant suits were also not allowed to be worn on Sundays.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and a selcetion of clothing items like blazers used by students and staff. The UPA also has a collection of the UP newsletters and annual reports.
