On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the Klinikala Building at the Kalafong Hospital, in Atteridgeville was opened.
Since the establishment of the Medical faculty in 1943, it was endeavoured to connect clinical training as far possible with the living patient. One of these training facilities was established in Atteridgeville at the Kalafong Hospital in the early 1970s. Initially UP hired space at the hospital to train its students. On 5 February 1976 the university opened its own building for clinical training, naming it the Klinikala Building. The building consisted of a dean’s office and 16 other lecture offices, three administrative offices, a lecture hall with 220 seats, four seminar rooms, a library, a cafeteria, a lecturers’ rest room and 16 bedrooms with bathrooms for students who perform after hour duties.
