A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 21 September 1944

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the UP Council announced the establishment of the Department of Radiology as part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (Health Sciences).

Dr S.F. Oosthuizen was appointed as the first professor and Head of the Radiology Department in 1945. The department grew rapidly and by 1959 it also had divisions of radio-diagnostics, radio-therapy and radio-isotopy.  Today, the Department of Radiology is housed at the Steve Biko Hospital. The Kalafong and 1 Military Hospital also have Radiology departments that form part of the students’ training circuit.
