A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria.

Posted on June 23, 2023

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria” the squash courts were opened on L.C. de Villiers Sportsgrounds.

The squash courts were opened by the rector Prof E.M. Hamman and cost R182 324 to build.  Squash was first introduced at UP in 1961. By 1988, squash was one of the biggest sports clubs at UP boasting 1000 student members. Today, UP has six wall backed courts and one glass backed match court at the squash facilities on the Hillcrest Campus.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or to access our collection.
