A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 28 September 2020

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, PDBY, reported that the UP Mammal Research Institute began their 41st aerial survey of the Southern Right Whales.

The survey, done annually since 1935,  monitors the population growth and recovery of the whales. The aerial surveyors use photographs taken from a helicopter to record all the whale species between Nature’s Valley and Muizenberg in the Western Cape. A preliminary count done earlier in 2020 recorded a decline in whale sightings.
