On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" Tukkie researchers reported on the success of using specific trap crops in potato crop rotation.
Staff members in UP’s , Potato Pathology in the Faculty of Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology had determined in this greenhouse trials that oat and soybean reduced the parasite Spongospora Subterranean sp. that causes a powdery scab on the potato. Professor Jacquie van der Waal explained that the research found that this parasite could contained the parasite by using this in rotation with potatoes.
