On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" Tukkie researchers reported on the success of using specific trap crops in potato crop rotation.

Staff members in UP’s , Potato Pathology in the Faculty of Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology had determined in this greenhouse trials that oat and soybean reduced the parasite Spongospora  Subterranean sp. that causes a powdery scab on the potato. Professor Jacquie van der Waal explained that the research found that this  parasite could contained the parasite by using this in rotation with potatoes.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive clipping collection as featured here. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or access our collection.
