On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the celebrated the artistry of the famous South African artist Betty Cilliers-Barnard.

Celliers- Barnard studied literature at UP and initially only painted as a hobby.  This talented artist was appointed as an art teacher at a secondary school and later as a lecture at the Normaal College in Pretoria. Later in her life, she also travelled to Europe and studied under world-renowned artists like Isedoor Ipsone and Andre Lhôte. Colors played an important role in her artworks. The University exhibited one of her works “Hereromeid” on this day in the Old Arts foyer. This artwork is a typical example of Cubism. The article in the student newspaper, the Perdeby, further explained the  contrasting effect of the gray colors Celliers-Barnad used in this masterpiece.
