On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student residence, Taaibos, hosted a seminar on the role of alcohol in car accidents.

The student newspaper Perdeby reported that people use alcohol too readily as a coping mechanism. Prof Botha warned students that a person under the influence often have an inflated sense of self assurance and poor decision making skills. This makes drinking and driving extremely dangerous. Prof Botha warned that social drinking is a very big problem amongst South Africans and that driving under the influence has a very high penalty.
