On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" UP received the UNESCO prize for Human Rights education.
Pretoria News, 28 May 2007
The Pretoria News, article featured above, reported that the UNESCO director –general Koichiro Maatsura awarded the prize to UP’s Centre for Human Rights. The prize was awarded because of the Human Right Center’s active participation in the construction of a democratic, apartheid-free society. The Centre for Human Rights contributed hugely to SA’s new constitution. The center was also awarded a prize for the African Human Rights Master’s degree and the African Human Rights Moot Competition.
