On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Die Perdeby reported on the laying of the foundation stone and the opening of the new Engineering faculty at UP. A year ago, on this day, the UP council also appointed an advisory senate committee for this faculty.

The article (featured above) detailed the first minister adv. J.G. Strydom’s speech on the opening of the Faculty of Engineering on 6 April. Strydom focused on the expansion of the university emphasized the important role that the faculty and its graduates would play in the growth of the nation state.
