A day in the life at the University of Pretoria: 14 November 1956

14 November 1956: Sympathy march for Hungary. On this “Day in the life of the University of Pretoria” Tukkie students marched to Church Square in solidarity with Hungary after the communist invasion of this country.

Despite writing exams, hundreds of students participated in this fundraising events as reported by the Rand Daily Mail (featured above). About 3,300 lb of winter clothes was collected and send via plane to Europe. Summer clothes were also collected and send via ship. By hosting a music concert, cake table and film show UP raised £1,400.
