Inclusive language is free from words, phrases or tones that reflect stereotyped or discriminatory views of particular people or groups.
Non-inclusive language not only entrenches tolerance of negative stereotypes and discrimination, but can also cause staff or students to feel excluded, which could have a detrimental effect on their studies or work, respectively.
Removing offending words and adopting language that is all-encompassing is vital to making transgender and gender-diverse individuals feel respected and acknowledged.
Follow this guide on how to reorientate your language use.
