SPMA to host 2024 ASSADPAM Conference

Posted on February 01, 2024

The School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA) at the University of Pretoria will host the Association of Southern African Schools and Departments of Public Administration and Management (ASSADPAM) conference from 18 to 20 March 2024.

The ASSADPAM is a professional network of higher education schools and departments in the public administration discipline.  The 2024 ASSADPAM Conference theme is Governance in action: policy, politics and public administration in flux.  It centres on the evolving landscape of public administration teaching, theory and practice in the face of technological advancements, social change, and global challenges.  The conference will serve as a platform for academics and practitioners in the governance and public policy spheres to share ideas and collaborate towards tackling global and national challenges.

Professor Gerda van Dijk, Director of the SPMA says the conference will provide an opportunity to concretise African solutions.

“We cannot expect public administration to remain the same considering the dynamic context we operate in, both locally and continentally. We can also not continue to argue that we need African solutions for African problems without clearly articulating the content, delivery, and meaning of African solutions,” says Professor Van Dijk.
