Professor Tyanai Masiya from the School of Public Management and Administration was at the Centre for Business in Society (CBiS), Coventry University, England. He is collaborating with Dr Iniobong Enang on research focusing on risk management in the public sector. Effective risk management enhances decision-making, protects public interest, promotes effective management of public funds, enhances compliance with law and policy as well as transparency and accountability. Prof Masiya visited CBis from 11 January to 10 February. This strategic visit aligns with the SPMA's mission to foster global collaborations, particularly with the influential Global North, while also elevating its interdisciplinary research portfolio.
Speaking on the research, Prof Masiya said: “This collaborative effort seeks to draw invaluable lessons for South Africa from a comprehensive case study conducted in England. Given the South African government's vital role in delivering essential public services, the identification, mitigation, and monitoring of uncertainties that may impede governmental objectives emerge as critical imperatives. The current scenario in South Africa reveals suboptimal risk management practices within the public sector”, he said.
To strengthen this research collaboration, the SPMA and CBiS collaboration is envisioned to enhance academic and research synergies between the two institutions, while providing a dynamic and forward-looking approach to advancing international cooperation in academia.
