Graduates of the SPMA are in demand in all three spheres of government. Its undergraduate programmes are structured in such a way that students specialise very early on in their studies. This gives them a solid foundation when they continue with their postgraduate studies.
In its programme offering, the SPMA offers two unique, career-orientated degrees for which the demand is growing tremendously among public officials: one at undergraduate level and the other at postgraduate level. The block-release BAdmin degree is a unique undergraduate course for public sector officials who are already working, and is the only degree of its kind in the country. The Master of Public Administration (MPA), on the other hand, provides a unique opportunity for public sector managers who have specialised in fields other than public administration to obtain a postgraduate qualification in public management and administration that will greatly improve their promotional prospects.
The SPMA presents a full-time BAdmin degree at undergraduate level, and a BAdmin Honours degree, presented on a block-release basis.
At master’s level, the SPMA also offers the MAdmin and MPhil (Public Policy) programmes, while doctoral programmes include the DAdmin, PhD in Public Administration and PhD in Public Management.
