UP at the South African Tertiary Mathematics Olympiad

The South African Tertiary Mathematics Olympiad (SATMO) took place on Saturday, 25 August 2018. There were 44 candidates at UP who wrote the test. The UP top three student results were:

First position, Ulrik de Mûelenaere a third year BSc(Computer Science) student; 
Second position, James Murray Louw a first year BSc(Mathematics) student and 
Fourth position, Adriaan Andries de Clercq a second year BSc(Mathematics) student

Ulrik and Adriaan were both participants in the Siyanqoba Programme here at UP during their high school careers.  The success of the event is attributed to the students’ availability. Thanks to Paul, Yollanda , and Charles for the grading. Thanks to Ruaan who assisted with the printing of the certificates, taking of the pictures/photos of the participants and uploading of the marks. He was assisted by Yollanda. Thanks to Paul and Charles for the training of some of the students from 16:30 – 18:30 on Tuesdays in the run up to the event.
