The 39th Symposium of Numerical and Applied Mathematics (SANUM) was successfully hosted this year by the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The symposium has a long standing tradition as an event in the scientific life in South Africa and took place from 30 March to 1 April 2015.

Since its inception in August 2013, the South African Research Chair Initiative (SARChI) Chair in Mathematical Models and Methods in Bioengineering and Biosciences (M3B2), has been working towards strengthening collaboration between mathematicians and biologists.

Mathematician receives SAMS Award for Research Distinction

Prof James Raftery received the SAMS Award for Research Distinction at the South African Mathematical Society 57th Annual Conference that was held in Johannesburg from 29 to 31 October. We congratulate James on his achievement and share in the honour that this has brought to our department.
