At the annual Bosberaad of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Prof Izak Broere, Chairperson of the Adjudication Panel announced the winners of the prestigious Excellence in Teaching Award as well as the Award for Adding Value to Teaching for 2014.

Prof James Raftery received the SAMS Award for Research Distinction at the South African Mathematical Society 57th Annual Conference that was held in Johannesburg from 29 to 31 October. We congratulate James on his achievement and share in the honour that this has brought to our department.

South African Mathematics Team Competition (SATMC) 2014

Two junior teams (Gr 8-9) and three senior teams (Gr 10-12) consisting of ten members each competed on Saturday, 14 September in the annual SATMC against teams from all over Southern Africa.
