BSc Honours in Mathematics and Mathematics Education

Stream 1: Algebra and Analysis (programme code 02240183)

OR

Stream 2: Applied Analysis (programme code 02240184)

OR

Stream 3: Differential Equations and Modelling (programme 02240185)

Admission requirements

An appropriate Bachelors degree with a minimum of 60% for all Mathematics/Applied Mathematics modules on third-year level.

In the selection procedure the candidate’s complete undergraduate academic record will be considered.

For Stream 1, the following 3rd year modules or equivalents are required: Real analysis and Algebra (UP modules WTW 310, WTW 381). 
For Stream 2 and 3 at least four of the following 3
rd year modules or equivalents are required: Partial differential equationsDynamical systems (Ordinary differential equations), Real analysis, Complex analysis, Numerical analysis or Continuum mechanics. (UP modules WTW 386, WTW 382, WTW 310, WTW 320, WTW 383 or WTW 387)

The final approval is granted by the Faculty Postgraduate Committee.

Duration

Subject to other faculty regulations, a student must complete his or her honours studies within one year (or two years for part-time).

Programme composition

The program consists of seven honours coursework modules and a mandatory project.

Modules: Five "WTW" honours modules (5x15 credits = 75 credits)

                   Two Education honours modules (2x16 credits = 32 credits)

Project: WTW 795: Project 795 (30 credits)

Total credits required: 137
