Anime Night Lights Up Piazza with Cosplay, Quizzes, and Gaming
On the 18th of August 2025, Anime fans gathered in the Piazza for the much-anticipated Anime Night.
There were over 200 attendees and strong participation across various activities such as Guess the Anime Intro, Guess the Anime Character, the Anime Gaming Tournament, as well as the main attraction, the Cosplay Competition.
The cultural aspect of the event was highlighted through the competition – the handicraft skills as well as performance skills were highlighted, as several contestants created their own outfits, and every contestant performed a short skit or dance as part of their showcase. The Japanese culture of anime and cosplay was further expressed through this competition alongside the quizzes and vendors. Anime Night stands out as a successful cultural highlight on the student calendar, implementing Japanese Pop Culture with the spirit of student collaboration at the University of Pretoria.
