Masters in Project Management (MPM)

Purpose of the (MPM)

The Masters in Project Management empowers graduates to apply scientific thinking and advanced interdisciplinary skills to manage projects over the project life-cycle.
Viewing projects as temporary endeavours, the programme facilitates learning of the fundamentals of project management to enable learners to identify, develop, implement and close projects. Apart from the core project management modules, the programme also views projects as strategic initiatives with modules considering the environment, people and the realisation of benefits.

Outcomes of the MPM

The MPM empowers graduates to apply scientific thinking and advanced interdisciplinary skills to manage projects over the project life-cycle.
The program is designed so that upon completion, students will achieve the following academic outcomes:

  1. Initiate, plan and execute a project.
  2. Design and implement a project organization involving various internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Apply analytical tools and techniques for problem solving and decision-making.
  4. Setup project control mechanisms.
  5. Provide strategic guidance and lead the project team in an ethical and responsible manner.

  1. The Graduate School of Technology Management is registered at the Project Management Institute , USA, as a Global Education Provider.
  2. The Masters Programme in Project Management (MPM) received international accreditation from the PMI in 2008 and is the only project management master’s degree course on the African Continent that is accredited by the GAC (Global Accreditation Center) of the Project Management Institute (USA).
  3. The MPM programme has also been accredited by the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP).

Obtain relevant information

Check if you meet the Admission requirements and get information on the programme fees. The programme fee covers the first two years of registration. The applicable registration fee is payable for any registration thereafter. Fee includes tuition, study material, but excludes prescribed books.

Applications dates:

  • SA citizens from:  1 April to 31 October 2024
  • Non SA from:  1 April to 31 August 2024

Pre-registration steps:

  1. Complete contract on portal
  2. Pay initial fee (Banking details) or email your bursary  letter to  [email protected]
  3. International students contact [email protected] to lift International Block

Access clickUP and Prepare for classes, do pre-class tests and assignments


Attend class

Attend compulsory online classes. Refer to Student Resources for the timetable. The GSTM semesters commence earlier then indicated on the general UP calender.
