The UP model is predicting ENSO neutral/weak La Niña conditions throughout the austral summer. with international models on average are predicting the same. During spring, maximum temperatures are expected to be below normal in the Southwest Cape. For most of the summer, temperatures will start out above normal but are predicted to drop to below-normal levels toward mid-summer, in anticipation of higher rainfall. The exceptions are the southern coastal areas and the Southwest Cape, which are likely to experience warmer, above-normal temperatures.
Spring is also expected to bring above-normal rainfall to the Southwest Cape and parts of Namibia. In contrast, the eastern and northern parts of the summer rainfall region are likely to see below-normal rainfall. As summer progresses, however, the overall chances for above-normal rainfall will increase across the broader summer rainfall region.
