Using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to fight crime in South African cities

Prof Gregory Breetzke was a panel speaker at the inaugural Policing Summit held at Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg from 8-10 April.  Roughly 500 delegates attended the Summit including President Cyril Ramaphosa (who was the keynote speaker), the Minister of Police, JCPS Ministers, senior SAPS officials, community leaders, academics, NGOs, and business leaders. The focus of the conference was to reset policing in South Africa and identify ways in which policing could be optimized. Prof Breetzke gave a panel presentation entitled: How Geographical Information Systems (GIS) could (and should) be used to fight crime in South African cities?
