Emily Barnes, a master's student in the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics, and Meteorology, recently presented her research at the Annual National Multidisciplinary Postgraduate Student Conference on Contemporary Urban Development Questions. The conference, hosted online by Stellenbosch University on May 24th, focused on the theme of Social Justice and Sustainable Urban Development in the African context.
Emily presented part of her honours research, titled "Production and Consumption in Urban Social Spaces: Exploring the Foodification of Hazelwood in Pretoria." Her insightful exploration into the dynamics of urban food spaces and its impact on urban change received acclaim from both the conference organisers and her fellow peers. In recognition of her outstanding presentation, Emily was awarded the Best Presenter Award and received a book prize. Congratulations, Emily!
