Meteorology Masters graduate wins SSAG Bronze Medal

Marks Geldenhuys was awarded the Research Master's Bronze Medal Award for 2018 by the Society of South African Geographers for his thesis entitled "Blocking, gap flow and mountain wave interaction along the coastal escarpment of South Africa". Marks was a full time employee at the South African Weather Service during the time of his Msc studies and completed the degree under the supervision of Liesl Dyson and Deon van der Mescht. He designed and conducted an experiment to measure atmospheric turbulence in a mountainous terrain along the South Coast of South Africa. Markus is currently perusing his PhD studies at the Institute for Energy and Climate Research, Julich Research Center where he is furthering his knowledge on the design of atmospheric experiments.
