Quadriplegic student graduates with MA from the Centre for Environmental Studies

Posted on May 10, 2019

Izak Boshoff (IB) Foster, a quadriplegic student as a result of a high school rugby accident, graduated during the April graduation ceremonies with his MA Environment and Society degree. Mr Foster obtained the degree under the supervision of Dr Natalie Haussmann, from the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology. His dissertation, entitled “Understanding farmer knowledge, perceptions and management of burrowing mammals: A study from the Ottosdal region in South Africa”, explores human-wildlife conflict within the agro-ecosystem in South Africa. IB obtained a distinction for his dissertation and it has already been accepted for publication in the journal Agriculture and Human Values. For additional information on IB's achievement please visit the University of Pretoria Facebook page (look for 17 April).

We congratulate IB on his achievement and wish him all the best for his continuing studies with us since IB is currently registered as a PhD student within the Centre for Environmental Studies, continuing under Dr Haussmann’s supervision.
