Research profile

Bolelang has a background in Geomatics with a focus in Geoinformatics, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Bolelang’s research interests include, geospatial big data analysis, geovisualisation, geovisual analytics, web - GIS and spatial data infrastructures. Her PhD thesis was titled “A visual analytics framework for streaming spatio-temporal sensor observations”. Bolelang researched real-time geo-spatiotemporal sensor observations, a type of data essential for (near) real-time communication of observations, useful for various applications, including environmental monitoring, disaster management and smart location-based applications.

Bolelang is the co-chair of the data governance working group, for the South African National Earth Observation and Space Secretariat - NEOSS.

She is also the Secretary of the Inter-Commission on Openness in Geospatial Science and Remote Sensing, for the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).
