UP Law’s Prof Steve Cornelius appointed to Council of Experts of Canadian Sport Law and Governance Association

The Faculty of Law (UP Law) at the University of Pretoria (UP) extends hearty congratulations to Professor Steve Cornelius who has accepted an invitation to serve on the Council of Experts of the Canadian Sport Law and Governance Association.

The Canadian Sport Law & Governance Association is a non-profit organisation incorporated under the 'Canada Not-For-Profit Corporation Act S.C. 2009, c23’. Its goal is the understanding, advancement and ethical practice of sport law and sport governance with the aim of developing best practices in international sport law and in sport governance, relating to professional and amateur sports.

In reaction to this breaking news, Cornelius says ‘Being recognised by one’s peers in such a way is very humbling and a huge honour. I look forward to greater transatlantic cooperation that can benefit Canadian and South African sport.”

Cornelius is the Head of the Department of Private Law.  In a controversial move on 29 April 2018, Cornelius resigned from the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) in protest of their hyperandrogenism policy.

A very proud Dean Elsabe Schoeman congratulated Cornelius on this achievement and expressed her delight with the new cross-border cooperation between UP Law and the Canadian Sport Law and Governance Association.
