CPD Unit of the Department of Family Medicine UP

Background

Continuing Medical Training CC (CMT) presented 100 courses/conferences during the period 2000 to 2017. As CMT decided not to present any further courses, the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria decided to arrange courses in future using the same principle used by CMT whereby all required CPD points could be earned by attending one four-day course per annum.

We have pleasure introducing you to the new management team for CPD:

-       Prof Jannie Hugo, Head: Department of Family Medicine, University of Pretoria;

-       Prof Helgard Meyer, Family Physician and Pain Clinician;

-       Dr Keith Michael, Family Physician in Private General Practice; and

-       Dr Martin Bac, Family and Palliative Care Physician, Department of Family Medicine.

Four-day courses will be held as before in Benoni (August). We are busy developing an exciting programme, customized for general practitioners and other primary care doctors. We will cover the most relevant aspects of the clinical spectrum in general practice and primary care, over a five-year cycle from 2018 to 2022, which will be presented by Key Opinion Leaders in their field of expertise.

Objectives:

  1. To arrange and present CPD conferences in a professional way.
  2. To use the services of the most appropriate speakers in the various medical fields.
  3. To give medical professionals a ‘one-stop service’ whereby they can earn the annually required 30 CPD points by attending a four- day conference. Accommodation will be available at the conference venues.
  4. The CPD conference programmes are structured in such way that all subjects relevant to general practice and primary medical care will be covered over a five-year period.
  5. Conference delegates will receive their CPD certificates at the end of the conference.
  6. CPD points are strictly awarded according to the requirements of the HPCSA.
