UP’s Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital (OVAH) in the Faculty of Veterinary Science has invested in the latest device to test deafness in dogs, and is currently testing 20–30 dogs per month, most of which are puppies.

Dr Francis Kolo, of the Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases at UP, conducted a study on the dog population of Hluvukani Village to determine the prevalence of rabies in the area and the causes of mortality in the population.
