Dr. Abdur Kadwa joined the Department in 2017 as a Small Animal intern during which he was exposed to multiple disciplines in small animal clinical studies as a basis for enrolling in a specialist training programme. In 2018, he was accepted as a resident in Veterinary Anaesthesiology (MMedVet). He is also concurrently enrolled as a resident with the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA). This involves specialist training in the disciplines of veterinary anaesthesia, analgesia and critical care. Dr. Kadwa is also involved in the clinical training of undergraduate veterinarians and veterinary nurses in these disciplines.
The initial groundwork studying isovolaemic haemodilution in dogs has recently been concluded. Dr. Kadwa hopes to continue researching the clinical implications of isovolaemic haemodilution. Additional, he will also investigate the effect on haemostasis and on acid-base physiology.
