Community engagement collaboration between JCP and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Posted on July 24, 2016

During the past recess 6 engineering students from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign worked together with students enrolled in the Community-based Project Module (JCP) of the Faculty Engineering, Built Environment an Information Technology for their credits in service learning.

The students worked the first week at Bester Birds and Animal Zoo Park as well as Susan Strydom Old Age Home.  The second week the students assisted with a brick making course at Stanza Bopape Community Centre. Renovated various parts of His Grace and Mercy Day Care in Sunnyside and assisted in the vegetable garden at Bekekayo Farm School.

This was wonderful learning experience for both the JCP as well as the students from Illinois.

Students with their lecturer, Valeri Werpetinski, Dr Martina, responsible for the JCP module and the Dear of the Faculty, Prof Maharaj.
