JCP-projects at Bester Birds and animal zoo

Posted on April 11, 2015

Students enrolled in the Community-based Project Module (JCP), the compulsory undergraduate course of the Faculty Engineering, the Built Environment and Information Technology did various projects at Bester Birds and animal zoo. Wian Smit, Marcus van Niekerk, Johan O'Connel, Elmer Vermeulen and Micheal Klopper, all engineering students, were responsible for building a cement slab in the Alpaca environment. The slab was needed because of the drainage in the environment that was not ideal. Every time it rained there would form a “swamp” according to the zookeeper. After the slab was finished, the students had to reshape the elevation of the environment for better drainage in the rest of the environment as well. They also built a platform for the jaguar enclosure. They reflected afterwards that the project was one of utmost satisfaction.
