Community-Based project in Lesotho

Posted on November 04, 2008

Jacorien van Eyssen (Town and regional planning), Karla Booysen (Town and Regional planning), Henriëtte Loggenberg (Civil engineering), Enke-Mari Malherbe (BIS: Multimedia) and Maritha Botha (Civil engineering) designed, made and installed a grinder for a community in Lesotho as part of the Community-Based Project Module (JCP).

The students know the son of the chief of a village, Ha-Babaroane, in Lesotho. The villagers have to walk 7 km to the nearby village to grind their mealies. The students decided to design and built the grinder. Thereafter they visited the village and showed the community members how to use it. The communities members are very please with the final product and the students had a wonderful and memorable experience.
