Noliene Pieterse, Janine Kleynhans, Eunice Steyn, Anthony Burgess en Noël Joubert, students enrolled for the compulsory undergraduate course, Community-Based Project Module (JCP) of the Faculty Engineering, the Built Environment and Information technology started a vegetable garden at the Good Hope Children centre in Nellmapius. There are 56 children at the after school centre of which 10 are orphans that stay at the school on a permanent basis. It was a very emotional experience for the students
Noline Pieterse reflected as follows: “JCP was a life changing experience. Not only did I learn a few new skills like making a vegetable garden or making successful cup cakes that is different than my usual routine, I also learned life lessons like being grateful for what I’ve got and to appreciate my parents… “
