Mobiles for bored penguins

Posted on August 06, 2011

The students enrolled for the compulsory undergraduate module Community Based Project, of the Faculty Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology made funky mobiles for the penguins at the National Zoological Gardens. The students, Caitlin Kenny, Justin Lotter; Chien-Wen Sung and Gareth Williams decided on their project, after the staff of the Zoo indicated that the penguins get very bored and there is only one mobile in their enclosure. They made various mobile comprised of mirrors and bells.

Chien Wen reflected afterwards: " Throughout the project I learnt a lot about penguins. In the beginning it was very confusing what will interst them. It is very interesting to interact with penguins and they are surprising friendly. Gizmo and Bubbles, the two babies are particular interested in their new found toys."
