The Department of Architecture embarked on a programme to design the science lab for Matlaisane Secondary School in Hammanskraal. Grade 11 and 12 learners of the school were invited to the University. Architectural students enrolled for the Community-Based Project Module, assisted the learners with the designing of their new science lab. Once the construction of the science lab is done the installation will begin. Lafarge (Lafarge South Africa Holdings is one of the major cement companies in Southern Africa) has sponsored the amount of R20 000 for the implementation of the winning scheme. One of the aims of this project is to make learners more aware of the various architectural careers and to give learners a hands-on experience in architecture.
