Understanding what it is to be a volunteer

Posted on May 04, 2014

Four students, Charné  Bothma, Francois de Jager, Michal Izeboud and Dillon Parfitt enrolled for the Community-Based Project module of the Faculty Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology assisted at a non-profit organisation, Hands at work, in White River for their project.  They helped with various tasks from moving bricks, repainting rooms and repairing a road.  Their reflection of the project was “we learnt to be grateful for what we have by experiencing a day through the eyes of a volunteer working in the community” and “we learnt that one does not need to be an expert or a knowledgeable person to better the lives of others, you only have to be willing”.
