At the University of Pretoria's Mamelodi campus, proudly positions itself as an anchor institution within the Mamelodi community. Our campus anchor strategy, the Mamelodi Collaborative, seeks to foster meaningful partnerships to drive positive change, which defines our role in enhancing the lives of those around us. We focus our efforts on five key niche areas:

5. Science and urban environment: Our commitment to scientific inquiry and environmental stewardship enables the development of innovative solutions to urban challenges.


Campus Resources: The Mamelodi campus boasts several facilities designed to enhance our community outreach and engagement:

  • Business Hub (Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences): A resource centre for aspiring entrepreneurs and businesses, offering support, training and networking opportunities.
  • Animal Health Clinic (Faculty of Veterinary Science): Provides essential veterinary services to the community while offering practical experience for our students.
  • Urban Studios (Faculty of Theology and Religion, Centre for Faith and Community): A creative space where ideas and discussions flourish, fostering community dialogue and engagement.
  • The Mae Jemison US Science Reading Room (USA Embassy in Pretoria): Creating a space for high school learners to study, learn and engage with science and to do research on local community concerns and interests.

Focused Community Engagement Projects: Our community engagement projects are designed to address critical areas and foster development:

  • Digital literacy of the community: We strive to empower residents with essential digital skills, enhancing their ability to participate in the digital economy.
  • Development of early childhood development phase practitioners: We are dedicated to training and supporting ECD practitioners who play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation.
  • New technology teaching: By introducing innovative technologies, we prepare both educators and learners to thrive in an increasingly tech-driven world.
  • Capturing the history of Mamelodi: This project is run in collaboration with the Historical Society of Mamelodi, to digitally capture the stories of Mamelodi.
