	Louise du Toit is a qualified medical scientist who works as a research assistant in the Department of Immunology at the University of Pretoria. From an early age, she has been passionate about science, especially in the medical field. Louise started her training with an undergraduate degree in Human Genetics, where after she did honours and a master’s degree in Haematology. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Immunology, where she will perform targeted metabolomic analyses on the plasma of HIV-exposed uninfected (HEU) infants. The aim is to determine whether there is a difference in specific metabolites, associated with growth, between the HEU infants vs. the HIV-unexposed uninfected infants. Louise hopes to use her career in science to improve the lives of children, especially those in disadvantaged communities.
