He is leading the academic development and implementation of Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) and the AITA Health mobile data system in particular. He is also leading the implementation of a Community Oriented Substance Use Programme (COSUP) in collaboration with the City of Tshwane and Gauteng DOH.  Jannie takes part in the NHI (National Health Insurance) development in SA and in particular the design of the basic primary care service delivery model within an Integrated Primary Health Platform. Jannie was trained at the University of the Free State, and practiced primary care in Qwa-Qwa in the Free State Province from 1984 to 1988, before moving to Medunsa, and subsequently UP.
