The University of Western Cape payed homage to prof Jakes Gerwel with a celebration on 10 November - including music and public lectures. One of the key events was a panel discussion on the responsibility and role of the public intellectual. Prof Hein Willemse of the Afrikaans Department at UP was one of the panel members.
