Tribute to prof Jakes Gerwel

  Tribute to prof. Jakes Gerwel Professor G.J. (Jakes) Gerwel (66) passed away on Wednesday, 28 November 2012. He was a professor in Afrikaans literature, erstwhile rector of the University of the Western-Cape and the first post-1994 director-general in the office of President Nelson Mandela. After his retirement he served on the boards of several scientific and business institutions. Since 2003 he was an honorary professor in the Departmento of Afrikaans at the University of Pretoria.
