“...many of the participating and winning artists eventually became some of the foremost South African artists.” - Pieter W van Heerden, Director, Association of Arts Pretoria

The annual Sasol New Signatures Art Competition has been a platform for promoting the work and ideas of emerging South African artists to the public for many years. This year the prestigious competition hosted work from many University of Pretoria students and alumni, including two merit award recipients. UP Fine Arts alumnus, Goitseone Botlhale Moerane, and Fine Arts first year student, Carol Anne Preston, were the recipients of two of the five acclaimed merit awards given at this year’s competition.

Current fourth year Fine Art students, Devon Brasler and Desiré De Lacy; Fine Art alumni Minien Hattingh, Leandré le Roux, Cazlynne Peffer, Sarah Pretorius and Chrisel van der Merwe  were all finalists in the competition, with works shown at the exhibition which opened on the 30th of August. The winner of this year’s competition was Johannesburg-based artist, Lebohang Kganye, who won the competition with her animated film ‘Ke sale teng’ (I’m still here).

The Sasol New Signatures exhibition runs until the 8th of October 2017, at the Pretoria Art Museum. For more information on the catalogue, competition and exhibition please visit www.sasolsignatures.co.za
