Pay As You Study

• Always quote your student number (EMPLID) when making payments. 
• UPOnline follows a 'Pay as you study' model – you pay only for the module(s) you register for. 
• Tuition fees are divided into equal payments per module and must be paid upon registration before the start of the module to ensure continued access to study resources. 
• UPOnline students are not eligible for discounts on tuition fees, and no payment arrangements can be made. 
• The preferred payment methods are EFT or direct bank deposits.
• Please note that EFT payments do not reflect immediately, so ensure you allow sufficient time for processing when making your payment. Always use your student number as the payment reference.
• For the ABSA online banking page, click here for help setting up first-time online banking. Search with 'UNI' as ABSA listed beneficiary and choose the 'University of Pretoria student' option. This will reflect UP's bank account number, 214 000 0054, when making a payment and allow you to use your student number as a reference.

Please view your student account on the UP Portal Self-Service for the amount payable. Students with no holds on their account may proceed with registration.

• Please upload your POP (Proof of Payment/deposit slip) in your Supporting Documentation folder on the UP Student Portal. On the "Student's Supporting Documentation" screen, under the option, 'Relates to' select 'UPOnline Documents'. In the 'Doc Type' dropdown, select the 'Proof of Student Payment' document type and then upload the POP file. 
• Allow at least five working days for processing by your bank, and retain the proof of payment (deposit slip).
• Do not email your deposit slip to UP. Emailing the deposit slip to UP will NOT reduce processing time at the University and will NOT allow same-day services.

Bank Details for South African and SADC Students

All South African and Southern African Development Community (SADC) students should allow at least five working days for processing by your bank before the payment deadline and retain the proof of payment (POP - deposit slip).

Bank Details for International Students

If international students pay from the bank in their home country, it may take up to 10 working days for the payment to be reflected in UP's account. Please pay well before the payment deadline.

International payments can be made using a credit card (provided you have 3D one-time PIN security in place with your bank) on the University website or by doing a SWIFT transfer from your bank in your country.

Please use the correct University bank account for the various international transactions.

SMAX is an online service management tool that helps students submit queries and requests related to general enquiries, student accounts, and finance. It offers a convenient platform to get assistance directly through the UP student portal.
