Student Forum Terms of Reference

Malaria remains a complex, public health concern despite the continuous efforts to eliminate the disease using existing and more modern methods and strategies.

The University of Pretoria Institute for Sustainable Malaria Control (UP ISMC) Student Forum aims to create a community among young and emerging researchers from different disciplines, with a keen interest in malaria, to bring together minds that will be instrumental in pioneering solutions to end malaria from multi- and transdisciplinary fronts. Our student forum positions itself as an all-inclusive forum which strives to analyze, synthesize, and harmonize links between disciplines to approach problems and research questions from multiple different viewpoints. In doing so, the UP ISMC student forum is dedicated towards understanding how environmental changes, contemporary world effects (including socioeconomic factors) and technological advances influence the spread of malaria, impacting the environment and its people.

The student forum actively strives to promote innovative research done at the UP ISMC. This is achieved through:

  • planning and directing malaria related educational and awareness campaigns,
  • fostering a synergistic relationship between the academia and the public for more effective strategies of malaria control and elimination, and
  • establishing active citizen science planforms to serve the purpose of educating the public about malaria related issues.

Our student forum consistently strives to welcome new and impactful perspectives to promote the novel and innovative research towards malaria elimination conducted at the UP ISMC.
