On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" Prof E.M. Hamman hoisted the UP flag for the first time on the occasion of Spring Day festivities in front of the Old Arts Building.
Since 1974, the UP flag has been hoisted on the University grounds every working day. The design consists of two horizontal planes of blue (top) and red (bottom), and the University coat of arms ringed with gold in the middle. On a fine day a bigger flag (180cm x 130cm) is hoisted and during bad weather a smaller flag (91cm x 61 cm) is used.
The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or to access our collection.
